Yes Feral Hogs are an issue not only here in Arkansas but all across the south. These mean things can destroy crops and land like a bulldozer. They also mate like rabbits, they average 4 to 6 piglets. This can be lower or higher depending on the maturity and availability of food etc.
However this is not the point of the blog, it is what I just read that I personally do not agree with. The Arkansas Plant Board has agreed to approve Warfarin-containing Kaput. According to the article this has been debated over the last 7 months. Now before I go any further you can read their words via the Arkansas Democrat Newspaper and I am just typing my thoughts.
This Kaput is supposed to be in containers that only hogs can access and it is not to be harmful to other animals or pets. This would depend on the amount that they eat etc. This product can only be placed by a licensed individual based on it toxicity etc.
Listen, I just cannot get behind this, having toxic barrels placed all over for feral hogs to eat. Let’s us some common sense here and let natural predators and land owners handle these things. I would be willing to bet>>> any ole country boy or lady will take the call and come over and handle with thermals and their favorite toys. This is a community issue that will take participation from hunters, neighbors etc to handle.
I just do not see this ending well and hopefully they can find the means to reverse this decision. America is beautiful with many animals and putting others at risk (even though it is minimal) still is to much to risk for me personally.
