As many of you know what I do for a living and if you do not know I am a bail bondsman for the State of Arkansas. I have been one since 2003 and during this time I think that I have traveled to almost every jail in this state for one reason or another.
There is one jail however that I go to on a regular basis that I just really enjoy the drive, sights and sounds.
Izard County Arkansas, the drive takes me about 30 minutes barring slow traffic but the the land is just awesome. Land that is filled with hay bales in the summer, snow covered fields with cows and horses in the winter etc.
However there is a road that I take on the way to the jail called Larkin Road. This road is a paved 2 lane with hills and curves with homes every mile or so. One of the first homes as I come around the corner I know not to hit the man’s chickens usually in the road. On up the road is a home that has a few cats and they like to hunt the ditch and sun bask on the edge of the road. Another home has a few horses who are usually on the fence line and if you zoom by they usually turn and look like the police.
On up the road are homes and fences that have been rebuilt since the last tornado that went through there. I know where every dip, hole and curve is. I also know that when I reach one house I know that I am but 5 minutes from the jail. There is one spot that has like a 3 bump rumple and I know if I hit that it will send me over to the other side of the road.
What I really like about Larkin Road is in the fall or like now b/c of the drought are the leaves in the road. As you drive down this road listening to your favorite music and look back you can just see the leaves flowing from your speed. If you ever have a chance take a drive, use Larkin Road to get to Melbourne Arkansas and I think it will bring a refreshing feeling to you.
